I LOVE the cottage setting of Coral’s home. Grandma made both Kimono…one for mommy and one for baby. I had this shot planned in my head from the beginning of the session till the very end. I really wanted to include both but not wanting the mother to wear the Kimono since I feel like that is something that is done to death. Also the form and pattern of the Kimono can be more appreciated by laying it on the bed.
The heat wave arrive in Vancouver during the weekend, and thus I can finally do naked baby beauty shoot. I had been waiting FOREVER, since when Aidan was born, it was in the dead of winter, and then by summer time, the 7months old was pretty oppose in nakedness..
These were shot with a navy blue blanket lying on the day bed..with me hovering on top of Don…
Speedlite place on CL. Window light as fill.
I was trying to copy the concept from the photos of No.1 fan Using a hard light (speedlite with snoots on one side) to get a really sudden transition area of the baby’s hand; yet use a huge and soft light source (window light) to light his face.

This 4 months old baby girl is a really funny kid, when I first met her she stare at me for about 5 mins..then started to bawl…Her mom later had told me that she is actually scare of people who has big eyes..

The shoot was really wonderful, because she is still under 6 months and we did choose to have it in the mid-afternoon as that is the most alert little Joelle would be; we opted to stay indoor. Their house has some wonderful big window, so every one get to enjoy the nice breeze in the hot afternoon.

I had mostly use my skin tone only preset for baby Don’s photo…I just like the effect, and hey my kid has a dark yellow skin tone..(olive-ish yellow) and with my pasty white skin (blood lost and sleepless night) it seem to be the only thing that I can do to balance the two out…
I did change the tone curve and saturation up a bit from the “MB photobooth skin tone only” preset, but the merit are the same. Bare in mind that you will have to work around the WB and the hue in HSL for each different situation. I had use bounce flash with these raw, but because the blind that I bounced it on had a light cream color, the WB was not too out of wack.

Spring is here! After the hail and snow and wind…spring seem to had landed in Vancouver. In time for me to offer you this new preset call ” smiley spring color pick up”. All it does is to give that little push in contrast and color on skin tone against greenery on outdoor pictures. I am going to try something new and to put the file on 4shared site temporary. The hardest part was to come up with different word to use as captions. There are only so many time you can get away with "to hold and cherish/embrace with affection" appear on the caption.
Anyhow, I plan on doing 16 to 24-ish pages with this style. With or without the numbers on left. I think this is more personalize…
